Shichi Henge (Seven Variations) is a regular segment in Gaki no Tsukai. The first segment aired on October 1995 and continues to the present, with the 49th segment airing in April 2016.
In a Shichi Henge segment, one performer must change into seven different characters (hence seven variations), enter the production meeting room and induce laughter from the people inside (the targets). For each variation, anyone who laughs are required to take out ¥1000 (equivalent to $10) from their wallets and deposit them in a box. At the end of the seven variations the money is totaled up and the performer is ranked by how much he procured from the others. The cash goes to charity.
Normally all five members (barring one of them is doing the variations), as well as the top production staff participate as targets, with the setting of being in the middle of a production meeting. The performer consists of the five members and the staff in the early episodes, and later on guests, usually other comedians. Nobody has performed the Shichi Henge twice, without variations.
Several variations exists. In one variation, the role of participant and target is reversed - seven people each try to get one person to laugh. Another variation involves the same role reversal, but to scare the single target. These special variations do not enter the ranking.
